About Shree Swaminarayan Temple

Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Ahmedabad is the first temple of the Swaminarayan Sampraday, a Hindu sect. British Imperial Government in India gave the land to construct the first shrine of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.The idol installation ceremony of this Indian temple was celebrated in the presence of 50,000  pilgrims from various parts of India.This is one of the famous Hindu temples in India.The British officer was so impressed by the temple architecture that he commanded a 101 gun salute in honour of  the temple. The primary diety of this temple is Narnarayan Dev.

This Indian temple was constructed in British architectural style and sculpture. The top of the  pavilions are reminiscent  of Mughal architechture.The intricate carvings inside the temple were made of  burma teak.It is believed that this Hindu temple is a partof the  valuable cultural heritage in the socio-religious history of Gujarat.The images in this temple are of Narnarayan Dev in the centre, Radhakrishna Dev on the right, Dharmadev, BhaktiMata and Harikrishna on the left in the central hall.The images were made in Dungarpur and the stone came from quarries in Himmatnagar and Dhrangadhra.

The brackets of the pillars in the portico as well as arches have been adorned with carvings in geometrical designs and a variety of flower and creeper motifs. There are giant  sculptures on twelve high pillars in the front row on which rest the portico of the first floor which capture our attention with their great artistic appeal. These sculptures include a flying Hanuman lifting the Devgiri mountain in his palm,  a Maratha warrior fighting under the Rani of Jhansi in the guise of Durga the Hindu goddess,the Indian leader Tatya Tope in the guide of Narsimha, the lion headed form of Vishnu and others.

The Jama Masjid is one of the oldest mosques in Ahmedabad which was built in the year 1424 during the era of Ahmed Shah. There are total 15 domes and 260 spires in the mosque. Jama Masjid meaning in English is “Friday’s Mosque” i.e. Jama=Friday and Masjid=Mosque. Jama Masjid was inaugurated by the Sultan Ahmad Shah-I on 4th January, 1424 for private use of the sultans. For so many decades, it is being used by the public of the city for prayers.
