About Ghuisarnath Temple

This temple is one the famous Hindu  temples in India. This Hindu temple is one among the 12 Jyotirlingas.According to the story of Shivapuranam,a brahmin named Brahmavetta Sudharm and his wife Sudeha lived on the banks of a lake.  Sudeha was  sad because they didn't have a child. She decided to marry her sister Ghushma to her husband.

On the advice of her sister,Ghushma made 101 lingas, worshipped them and put them into the near by lake.By the blessings of Lord Shiva Ghushma gave birth to a baby boy.  Sudedha got jealous and one night over the course of time she killed Ghushma's son  and threw him into the lake. Next morning, Ghushma and Sudharm were doing their daily prayers . Sudeha too, got up and started performing her daily chores. Ghushma’s daughter-in-law saw stains of blood on her husband’s bed and parts of the body drenched in blood.  She narrated everything to her mother-in-law Ghushma who was absorbed in worshipping Shiva. Even her husband Sudharma did not move an inch. Even when Ghushma saw the bed drenched in blood she did not break down and merely said that he who had given her the child would protect him and she started reciting “Shiva Shiva”. After that she went to put the shivalinga into the lake. At that time she saw her son coming towards her. Lord Shiva appeared before her and told that her child had been killed by her sister and he  said that he was pleased with her devotion. Ghushma told the Lord to forgive Sudeha.  Pleased with her generosity, Lord Shiva granted her another boon. Ghushma said that if he was really happy with her devotion then he should reside in that place eternally in the form of a Jyotirling for the benefit of the multitudes of devotees  and she wanted the Jyotirling to be known by her name . On her request, Lord Shiva manifested himself in the form of a Jyotirling and assumed the name Ghushmeshwar and the lake was named as Sai thereafter.
